Year 4 Brazil
Welcome to Brazil Class
Class teachers — Mrs Letman & Mrs Fasham
Teaching Assistants — Miss Henderson
Welcome to year 4 – We have a very exciting term ahead of us.
We are very excited to be back in school with your children, and we are happy to say we have settled in well to the new term. This term our Geography topic is, Rivers and Mountains and our Science topic is, We are scientists.
In English, this term, we will be continuing our approach to writing. The children will be using the writing rainbow to help them to develop their vocabulary and create lots of interesting sentences. We will be working on narrative and non-fiction texts.
In Maths, we will be working on numbers up to 10,000 in the first part, before moving onto addition and subtraction. We will also be working with the children to develop their problem solving and reasoning skills.
We have introduced a new spelling scheme in school. We are teaching spellings 4 times a week and the children are given plenty of time to practise. There will no longer be spellings sent home to learn.
Homework - Children are expected to read to an adult between 4- 5 times a week. Ideally an adult should be writing in their children's reading record. If they have a Lexia License then they will need to be using this daily. We would also like your child to practise their times tables-ideally 10 minutes a day
Brazil class will have their P.E. on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, please make sure that your child comes in their full P.E. kit on these days (including footwear).
Reading is being promoted this year in a variety of ways. If your child brings in their reading record they get a house point. If the reading record is brought in every day for a week, they will receive a small prize.
The children also have another reading incentive, if they read 25 books they get a small prize and if they read 50 books they will get a bigger prize.
If you have any questions about your child’s class, routines, or learning we are pleased to talk to you briefly on the playground at the end of the day. If you would like to speak in confidence, or have a longer conversation, please make an appointment at the office.
