Welcome back!
We are very excited to be back in school with your children and we are happy to say we have settled in well to the new term. This term we will be learning about all things space and we have already seen lots of curiosity and questions surrounding our topic.
PE days will be on a Monday and a Friday. Please ensure your child has a full Welland Academy PE kit and that they arrive for school already dressed for PE. Also please make sure that long hair can be tied back for PE and if your child has earrings please make sure that they are removed before the lesson. For this first half term we are doing netball and cricket in our PE lessons.
Spellings will be handed out on a Wednesday and tested the following Wednesday.
English currently has a focus on a story by Taiko studios called 'One Small Step' following the story of a budding astronaut called Luna. This will be changing later in the term to a Mars report and another space narrative.
Maths this half term will be focusing on addition, subtraction and statistics. This includes making sure we understand large numbers and that we can represent them in many different ways. We have already made a brilliant start with this!
Guided reading is based around extracts of common children's books and analysing them to magpie vocabulary.
Times tables will be tested often. It would be really helpful if parents could support children with the practise of these at home, if you are unsure of how to do this please speak to Miss Wright.
Homework will regularly be distributed through teams every week. Alongside this, they must practice their spellings weekly, their reading daily, and if they have a Lexia License then they will need to be using this daily.
If you have any questions about your child’s class, routines, or learning we are pleased to talk to you briefly on the playground at the end of the day. If you would like to speak in confidence, or have a longer conversation, please make an appointment at the office.
Thank you!
