Welcome to the Year 6 Romania Class page!

Class teacher: Miss Lilley

Current topic: Hola Mexico!

P.E days: Monday and Wednesday

Class reading book: Rooftoppers

Continuing with our normal operating procedures, the students will hand wash and sanitise their hands regularly throughout the day and the classroom and toilets will be regularly cleaned. Assemblies are now being held in key stages in the hall on a Tuesday and a Friday.

This half-term, we will be studying the unit Hola Mexico. This unit is predominantly history and geography based. In geography, we will be focusing on human and physical geography and how Mexico has changed over the years. In history, we will be learning about the Maya civilisation. We will be concentrating on the way they lived (and still live) including the food they eat, their religious beliefs, the games they played and the structures they built (surprisingly, in the middle of the rainforest). In writing, we will begin by writing a non-fiction piece about an animal that they have created. In our reading and maths lessons we will be preparing for the KS2 SATS.

Our class reading book is Rooftoppers. This is read to them every day. We encourage the students to read every day at home, making sure they bring in their reading record each day to be checked. We have a whole class reward system for reading, whereby if the students read they can add their initials to our class reward sheet. If the whole class collectively reads 200 times, we will have a whole class treat - this could involve an extra playtime, P.E lesson or part of an afternoon, where they can choose what they'd like to do. Homework and spellings will be sent out on a Friday and will need to be completed / practised ready for the following Thursday please. They will also need to make sure they are finding time to complete Doodle and TT Rockstars at home. All logins are in their reading record books.

If you have any questions or queries about your child's learning, do not hesitate to come and see me at the classroom door at the end of the school day. Alternatively, you can make an appointment with me after school. Thank you for your cooperation so far and for adjusting to the changes in operating procedures in school. We really appreciate your support!
